This year’s Socialist Party Yorkshire Regional School is taking place on Saturday 30th & Sunday 31st August in Leeds. The theme of the school will be “War, Imperialism & the Second International.”

The first world war began 100 years ago, unleashing slaughter on an unprecedented scale. Millions of working-class people were sent to their deaths in trench-warfare. This was the price of capitalism’s drive for profit, exploitation and new markets.

However, it didn’t have to be like this. Before the war, the Socialist (2nd) International had pledged to organise opposition to imperialism and militarism. Yet, when the crunch came, their parliamentary representatives voted for war and supported their own ruling class.

Today, we are in the midst of numerous conflicts provoked and prepared by the various imperialist world powers. Join us in discussing the lessons from 100 years ago and their relevance today.

The venue is the Cosmopolitan Hotel, 2 Lower Briggate, Leeds, LS1 4AE. Entry is £5 waged and £2 unwaged. All welcome!
